The Sacrament of Confirmation

We are “sealed with the gift of the Holy Spirit.” to live our faith in word and deed.

Confirmation

  • the sacrament during which we receive a special outpouring of the Holy Spirit to live our faith in word and deed.

  • a personal Pentecost through which we receive the same Holy Spirit given to the apostles at Pentecost.

Rite of Confirmation

“The essential rite of Confirmation is [1] anointing the forehead of the baptized with sacred chrism…, together with [2] the laying on of the minister’s hand and [3] the words “Be sealed with the gift of the Holy Spirit.” (Catechism of the Catholic Church 1320)
